Well, we've whittled it down to two clear front-runners: Adelaide and Monroe.
Little Ebelissa will certainly bear one of these two monikers.
Adelaide is just a name we've liked for a long time. It was popular in the early 1900's and is rather rare these days. It's just pure sweetness and there's nothing more to say about that. Nicknames include Ladie, Adelle, and the inevitable Addie, although we wouldn't set out to create a nickname for her or anything--it's just something to consider.
Monroe is my dad's middle name, (also a presidential name) and I've always thought it would be cool for a girl--part of the whole "last name for a first name" sound, and somewhat androgynous, excepting the Marilyn Monroe connection. Roe is a really cool nickname for that one.
We may not decide till the last minute now that we have it down to two favorite choices!
They are both lovely. I would only comment that I have met a couple of toddler Monroe's (one boy and one girl) in my preschool adventures with Madeleine. I agree that Adelaide is truly rare and lovely and have not crossed paths with a toddling Adelaide.
ReplyDeleteLove you sharing all this on your blog!
One thing you may want to consider is making sure any name you pick can be either formal or informal. That way they can be President or an artist or whatever and have either a formal or informal name as needed.
ReplyDeleteMonroe is also your Grandfather's middle name.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you picked it. It makes it even more special.
Love you,
Aunt Arla
Monroe Mae Cook, eh? Wonder what nicknames she'll have? Mony - M & M - MonyM - ??????????????
