Monroe's long-awaited two-week checkup was yesterday. We were anxious to get a few little questions answered, and mainly to confirm that Monroe had regained her birth weight and was ready to be allowed to sleep as long as she wanted (rather than our former instructions not to let her sleep through a feeding time.)
She had lost a fair amount at the house call we got from our lactation consultant on September 4 (down to 7 pounds, 9 ounces) so everyone was completely surprised and excited when she weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces!! Our lactation consultant said she thought her gain (2 pounds in 13 days) was an office record! She's tall as well, so her height and weight are right in step! This is proof positive that breastfeeding is going great, so several things we'd been waiting on are now approved: we got permission to ditch the meticulous charts of Monroe's every feeding, poop, and pee that they started us on at the hospital; we got permission to let her sleep as long as possible overnight, we got permission to use a pacifier if we want, and I'm allowed to start pumping a little backup milk as soon as I'm ready. It's been a very relaxed 24 hours since the visit!
Monroe was declared to be doing fabulously, and our pediatrician actually said something like, "You two should have 5 or 6 kids!" Ha ha ha!
I am so glad to hear Monroe is doing well. I hope she continues to excel at matching her percentiles, and starts sleeping through the night forthwith.
ReplyDeleteMonroe's first report card! And straight A's, no less! With her two brilliant parents, I am not in the least surprised! Love to you all, Dad
ReplyDeleteAh - that first baby excitement! I remember the sometimes frightening, but wonderful times. Then our first grandchild's birth came and it was a girl (after all those brothers & a son) and I just went crazy! Ah, these miracles that God has made!
