Viva la familia

Saturday was family day at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and this year it was a celebration of Mexican art and culture. We had been planning to take Monroe to the Getty since she was born, and it just happened to be Family Day when we finally got around to it.

Eben shares with his daughter his love of riding trams: (Seriously, he loves trams. Can't get enough of 'em. In airports, theme parks, wherever, he always wants to ride the tram.)

At the upper tram stop just under the museum, we spent several minutes indulging Monroe's love of moving water.

Our first stop was a marimba band in the plaza. We sat on a blankie and watched the band, and Eben and Monroe danced for a few songs.

After checking out some other attractions, we had lunch in the cafe. Mommy and Daddy ate vegetarian burritos, Monroe ate some avocado! Ole!
We saw some Folklorico dancers and a really amazing storytelling perform ace that used movement, sounds and masks to tell classic Mexican folktales. Monroe was really really captivated by the storytellers!

After all the excitement, Roe passed out in the Moby carrier, so Eben and I migrated to an uncrowded side of the building where the Getty trust is administered and enjoyed a quiet walk amidst amazing views of the Sepulveda Pass and downtown LA.

Because Monroe was sleeping so soundly, we decided to take the footpath back to parking rather than the return tram, so she got a nice long nap in and we got a bit of exercise. A great outing all around!

Now we're back to Mon-Fri life and the hustle and bustle of the week makes Saturday's fun feel like a distant memory as I make this post. But my mom is arriving for a visit in just two day's time, so more fun is on the way!!
