Today we had our carseat installed. Of all the things new parents spend their money on, this strikes me as the best! Rather than just trying our hand at it (and then hopefully having it professionally inspected--although not everyone ends up getting around to that...) we just paid a professional car-seat inspector to teach us how to install it properly from the get-go. She went over 2 methods of installing the seat, talked us through all the variables at play, and had us practice the installations and buckle a little doll in and out of the seat.
It was great to have an expert to explain some things that the manual doesn't cover clearly (how to deal with certain types of seats) or that aren't intuitive to everyone (where the seat should have some give in order to absorb shock versus where it should have as little give as possible, for instance.) The best thing is, the inspector (Cindy) will make a house call when the baby is about 3 weeks old to check that everything is still lined up properly and that we're getting a good fit!
